5. In different papers (1, 3, 41), Richard York, Eugene Rosa, and Thomas Dietz have used a common framework to test some of these theories at the global and national levels. DeHart and Soulé (39) tested the IPAT identity in a region of northwestern North Carolina covering 12 contiguous counties. Cramer (12, 40) also applied a stochastic regression model to quantify the overall impact of population growth on atmospheric emissions in California.
