On February 6, 2009, the Green Party of Florida, the Nuclear Information and Resource Service, and the Ecology Party of Florida filed a petition to intervene in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's licensing of Progress Energy Florida's proposed nuclear plant. One of the issues of contention was that Progress Energy Florida had not adequately considered aquatic and radioactive waste impacts.
