    • The feeding current, u, produced by a hovering predator of radius a, can be modeled in the far field by a stokeslet, which yields u « Ualr to leading order, where U is the near field feeding velocity and r is the distance from the predator. The capture radius is the distance r at which u is equal to the prey swimming speed (100 μm/s). For small copepods, a » 100 μm and U = 4 to 8 mm/s, yielding r = 4 to 8 mm.
