IMRT is the newest most sophisticated form of radiotherapy and this is the most complete recent article outlining its application in the most common RMS, that of the head and neck.

Complete second look operation and radiotherapy in locally advanced nonalveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in children: a report from the AIEOP soft tissue sarcoma committee. Pediatric Blood Cancer 2008; 51:593-597. This article from Europe is the most recent on second-look operation. Please also see a US article by Rodeberg just accepted for publication in Journal of Clinical Oncology. Second-look operations are to be distinguished from operations for recurrent disease. In second-look operation, there is a planned re-operation at the completion of protocol-prescribed chemotherapy and radiotherapy. There has been previous controversy about the utility of routine second-look operations in the absence of any radiographic findings. They conclude that in some sites there is still utility in this approach.
