This study evaluated outcomes of repeat saturation biopsy after initial saturation biopsy. Cancer detection rates were similar to detection rates after extended or sextant biopsy, although grade and stage of cancers were lower in this population.

This study investigates the role of saturation biopsy used in an active surveillance protocol. With a median time to restaging biopsy at 9 months, 38% of patients were upstaged. Patients with less than 20 cores at initial positive biopsy had a higher rate of upstaging at restaging saturation biopsy.

This study evaluated the role of staging biopsy for men on active surveillance. A negative first repeat biopsy was associated with a significantly lower progressionfree survival compared with patients with a positive first repeat biopsy.

This study evaluated immediate repeat biopsy results after an initial positive biopsy in men who were eligible for active surveillance. Results showed that up to 27% of men are upgraded or upstaged at immediate repeat biopsy.

This study evaluated TRUS volumes with likelihood of upgrading at radical prostatectomy. Larger TRUS volume was associated with a lower likelihood upgrading.

This study evaluated the differences between saturation biopsy and biopsy protocols involving less than 12 cores with regard to predicting Gleason score, tumor stage, and detection of insignificant cancers. Saturation biopsy provided better preoperative prediction of Gleason score and tumor stage and did not increase the detection of insignificant cancers.

Patients who had at least eight cores on positive biopsy had a significantly lower likelihood of upgrading.
