Burns B, Watkins L, Goadsby PJ. Treatment of hemicrania continua by occipital nerve stimulation with a bion device: long-term follow-up of a crossover study. Lancet Neural 2008; 7:1001-1012. This work describes the long-term outcome of a suboccipital neurostimulation in six patients with medically intractable hemicrania continua. This study provides a larger number of patients, a long-term follow-up and clinical outcome measures of headache-related disability as well as patient assessment. They show that suboccipital neurostimulation can have an effect even decades after onset of headaches.
