Srivastava KD, Zhang TF, Qu C, et al. FAHF-2 silences peanut-induced anaphylaxis for a prolonged posttreatment period via IFN-producing CD8p T cells. J Allergy Clin Immunol 2009; 123:443-451. This study presents two major novel findings: First, FAHF-2 provides persistent protection for almost a quarter of the mouse life span after a single course of treatment and also maintained the long-term beneficial immunomodulatory effect. This is an exceptionally long-term posttreatment effect. Such a longterm effect of food allergy therapy has not been demonstrated in any previous study. Second, this study identifies a functional requirement of IFN-g producing CD8 T cells that are responsible for the long-term therapeutic effect of FAHF-2.
