    • The energy diagram on the right side of Scheme 1 is an oversimplification of reality because it implies that both reactions share the same reaction coordinates and/or possess the same mechanism, which is not true. However, two reactions may have analogous steps like electron and proton transfer and comparison in such steps is valid to a point, as long as the steps being compared influence the final outcome.
