It should be noted that in the structure (l)2· MeOH·2 [and also (l)2·MeOH ·3] each position is occupied by two different [Zn, salphen, These molecules can be distinguished by two different detected positions of the Zn atoms which each have a 50% occupancy. One of the disordered positions of the Zn atom corresponds to a four-coordinate complex, whereas the second corresponds to a five-coordinate complex. The rest of the salphen ligand virtually occupies the same position for both molecules and can not be distinguished in the refinement procedure. The methanol ligand and the hydrogen-bonded N-heterocyclic molecule are attached to the five-coordinate [Znsalphen, complex and have, like the Zn atom, an occupancy of only 50, After applying a Ci symmetry the methanol and the hydrogen-bonded N-heterocyclic molecule occupy two overlaying, disordered positions between two salphen units. The total occupancy is one molecule
-
i symmetry the methanol and the hydrogen-bonded N-heterocyclic molecule occupy two overlaying, disordered positions between two salphen units. The total occupancy is one molecule of methanol and one molecule of N-heterocyclic 2 or 3 for two molecules of [Zn(salphen)].
