Rate constants of 3.8 × 108 and 6.0 × 108 M-1 s-1 are reported for the radical-radical reactions of (CH3)2C(OH)CH2 · and (CH3)2C·(OH), respectively, in aqueous solutions.27 On the basis of our proposed mechanism, the rate constant for the reaction in Scheme 4 should be a few times faster, i.e., g3× 109 M-1 s-1.
