    • There is a very strong negative correlation between rates of hydrogen abstraction by OH and C-H bond strength. The 107 kcal/mol (448 kJ/mol) C-H bond strength of CF3H is extremely high for a C-H group is a very good model for that of RCF2H end group. The RCF2H bond strength can be compared to those of methane and ethane which are 104.3 and 99.5 kcal/mol, respectively. The solution H-atom abstraction rates by •OH are 17times;108 and 4×109 M-1S-1 for methane and ethane, respectively. After normalizing for the number of equivalent hydrogen atoms, we estimate that the rate of H-atom abstraction of CF2H by •OH is no greater than 1×107 M -1S-1
