    • Throughout this article I make generalizations about this generation of composers. In fact, their music covered a wide range of styles and there were differences of opinion with regard to politics. Nonetheless, most of the significant composers of the generation collaborated in some form in the activities that form the focus of my discussion, and to this extent they shared a singularity of outlook during the period in question.
