Circulation 1998;97:1796-801. ▶ Meta-analysis of the limited number of randomised trials to evaluate the effectiveness of antibiotic prophylaxis to reduce infection rates after PPM implantation, which, despite the limitations of some of the studies included, demonstrated a benefit in the use of pre-procedure parenteral antibiotics to prevent short term pocket infection, skin erosion or septicaemia.
