As an interesting side note, Stephen Booth explains the use of "nothing" in Shakespeare's Sonnet 20 in a way that sheds light on the use of the word in Percy's Lancelot: "'Nothing' and 'naught' were popular cant terms for the 'vulva' (perhaps because of the shape of a zero)" (qtd. in Sedgwick, p. 39)
