    • Brine shrimp (Artemia salina) bioassay. The brine shrimp toxicity was assayed by small modified microtiter-plate method using brine shrimp Artemia salina as a test organism. Briefly, approximately 30 nuclei larvae hatched from eggs of A. salina in 0.2 ml of artificial sea water were incubated with a sample (5 ml in DMSO solution) in a deep-well microtiter plate at room temperature. After 24 h, the dead larvae were determined by counting the number of the dead animals in each well under microscope. To each test row, blind sample was accompanied by adding DMSO. The mortality rate was calculated using the formula:M = [(A - B - N)/(G - N)] × 100.M = percent of the dead larvae after 24 h; A = number of the dead larvae after 24 h; B = average number of the dead larvae in the blind samples after 24 h; N = number of the dead larvae before starting the test; G = number of selected larvae for test.
