Stuttgart: J.B. Metzler, Supplem. vii, coll. 1039-1138 (col.

Demetrius, on Style
-
Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, (p. 196)
-
Incidentally, when saying "Demetrius wrote his work" I do not wish to exclude the possibility that someone else, e.g. a pupil, wrote down the text as spoken by Demetrius. In this connection I think of Kennedy's characterisation: "Demetrius' treatise looks like a series of notes on certain aspects of composition" (G. A. Kennedy, "Demetrius, On Style", in The Cambridge History of Literary Criticism, vol i: Classical Criticism (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1989) pp. 196-98 (p. 196).

Letter Writing in Greco-Roman Antiquity
-
Philadelphia: The Westminster Press, says, because of the testimonies of Theon and Nicolaus: Letter writing was learned in the second stage of education, thereby meaning the stage of the progymnasmata. This view is no obstacle to my interpretation, because in the final stage of Greek declamation the aspect of the style of letters remains to be discussed

Stanley K. Stowers, Letter Writing in Greco-Roman Antiquity, Library of Early Christianity 5 (Philadelphia: The Westminster Press, 1986) p. 32, n. 3 says, because of the testimonies of Theon and Nicolaus: "Letter writing was learned in the second stage of education", thereby meaning the stage of the progymnasmata. This view is no obstacle to my interpretation, because in the final stage of Greek declamation the aspect of the style of letters remains to be discussed.
