    • Hichem D. Gallala received his PhD from the University of Bonn in 2006. He is a postdoctoral researcher of the Membrane Biology and Lipid Biochemistry Unit of LIMES Life and Medical sciences Institute of the University of Bonn. His main research interests are protein biochemistry and membrane metabolism. Konrad Sandhoff is an emeritus professor of biochemistry of the University of Bonn. He received his PhD from the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich in 1965. He worked in the Neurochemistry division of the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry. He became professor of biochemistry, university of Bonn in 1979 where he remained until 2007. His research interests include among others endocytosis and lysosomal digestion of lipids and membranes; Biochemistry, molecular biology and pathobiochemistry of inhirited sphingolipid storage diseases; and organization and regulation of sphingolipid biosynthesis
