Use of hyaluronidase in the treatment of granulomatous hyaluronic acid reactions to unwanted hyaluronic acid misplacement
-
: Dr. Goldman's conclusion that Aquamid, a polyacrylamide polymer could be displaced as a consequence of the injection of another volumizing agent is entirely plausible. Fibrous scaffolding originating from the injection of Aquamid is a slow process; 0.5 mL of the gel was not fully integrated until 14 months after injection in one study.b1-11 Nicolaub2-12 speculates about the possibility of distant macro migration facilitated by the absence of a fibrous capsule. Lemperleb3-13 discusses the effect of muscle movement that has "pushed implanted substances into the subcutaneous fat." If other observers validate Goldman's prescient observations, they suggest yet another concern when injecting multiple fillers into areas of vigorous muscular activity.
