This study involved 1846 patients with early stage breast cancer to determine the effectiveness of surveillance mammograms. The findings support the benefit of surveillance mammograms, showing a 0.69-fold decreased odds of breast cancer mortality for each additional mammogram.

This study reports the results of a population-based study of breast cancer follow- up care for 44 511 women over age 65 in the US. The findings point to an overuse of surveillance testing among women who are followed by oncologists. However, the majority of women did not see an oncologist annually but did see a PCP.
