Conformational preferences of benzanilides were explored by searching the Cambridge Structural Database (http://www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/products/csd) for the fragments 13a and 13b and analyzing distributions of the dihedral angle, τ, defined by the bonds colored red. The value of abs(τ) exceeded 160° for all 485 matches (292 refcodes) with 13a but was less than 30° for most (54/66 fragments; 6/36 refcodes) matches with 13b.
