Patient autonomy and relatives' right to know genetic information
-
in press). This patient-centred approach has significant implications in two contexts: (1) when the interests of family members were compromised by the doctor and they would like to seek a legal remedy; (2) when a conflict of interests between the patient and the relative arises, for example, when the patient refuses to disclose to the relative medical information which has significant implications for the relative's health. In these two situations the chances of the family member to have a legal remedy are relatively remote. For a detailed account regarding the gap between the theoretical perceptions of medical law and medical practice see Gilbar, ibid.
