The reaction quotient Q is defined by the equation Q, HCO3, 3/[CO2]s[OH, s, where [X]s denotes the molar concentration of each species X in the top bilayer of the ice film, which is the probing depth of our RIS and LES measurements. The surface concentrations [CO 2]s and [OH-]s were measured by the RIS and LES techniques in combination with TPD measurements.
