note
-
This increase in dissipation occurs despite the fact that the collisions are elastic. The reason is that after a collision, the velocity of the particles are altered, generating a sudden and intense velocity difference between the particle and the surrounding flow, which by Eq. 2 means an increase in the dissipative Stokes force.
