    • To avoid confusion, it should be stated that in some cases the term "honeycomb structure" is used to describe the magnetic structure of Ising-like spins on a hexagonal lattice, where one third of the magnetic moments are aligned antiparallel to another third, while the residual third of the moments remain disordered (Ref.). In this article we use the term "honeycomb structure" in a strictly crystallographic sense.

    • The C (T) data on nonmagnetic analogues were only used for comparison to that of SrEr2 O4. No subtraction of the lattice contributions to the specific heat has been performed. Additional higher-temperature measurements have shown that the specific heat of SrEr2 O4 becomes comparable to that of nonmagnetic analogues at approximately 50 K.
