1. "Rent-seeking" refers to attempts by a person or special-interest group to influence public policy in order to obtain particular benefits at the expense of all others in a community. For example, rent-seeking behavior includes lobbying the government for particular taking, spending, or regulatory policies that would confer benefits or special advantages to the particular person or group at the expense of taxpayers or consumers generally.
