    • The 1995 Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Joseph Rotblat and to the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, for their efforts to diminish the part played by nuclear arms in international politics and, in the longer run, to eliminate such arms. Today, the Pugwash mission is to bring scientific insight and reason to bear on threats to human security arising from science and technology, and particularly the threats to humanity posed by nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction (www.pugwash.org/).
