This study included a majority of patients with HCC initially exceeding Milan criteria who underwent liver transplantation if they showed objective response to TACE (effectively down-staged) based on the RECIST criteria. Despite a high dropout rate in the group exceeding Milan criteria, 5-year recurrence-free survival for those exceeding Milan criteria but responded to TACE was similar to those within Milan criteria.
