Technically, a state decaying irreversibly is nonergodic by definition. We assume our irreversible process will recur eventually, but is not correlated with the previous occurence, the way a charged quantum dot is eventually neutralized. We have actually considered elsewhere (Ref. 48) a set of connected states subject to interruptions, where each process is technically recurrent. Not considering the return explicitly in this work does not modify its conclusions.
