    • note
    • Courtney Leatherman, "Part-Timers Continue to Replace Full-Timers on College Faculties, " Chronicle of Higher Education, 25 January 2000, A18. "We're not looking at episodic changes; we're looking at historical changes. And if left unchecked and unreformed, these changes threaten the university. " It should be noted that Leatherman's numbers include only the part time faculty, not lecturers off the tenure ladder and the graduate students who teach. The number of teachers who are not part of a permanent faculty is therefore much larger than the 43 percent figure Leatherman gives. In two-year institutions even just the part-time faculty by her count reaches 67 percent.
