Several methods for the cleavage of the surprisingly stable borane-amino alcohol adducts were tested. Although the treatment with iodine or hydrogen peroxide led to the decomposition of the sample, acidic work up by addition of aqueous citric acid or HCl appeared to have no beneficial effect. The best results were obtained by treatment of the borane complexes with diethanolamine, see: H. C. Brown, J. Chandrasekharan, P. V. Ramachandran, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1988, 110, 1539-1546
