The major pectoral muscle was dehydrated, cleared, and embedded in paraffin. Serial sections were cut in 5 μm and mounted on gelatinized glass slides. Sections were deparaffinized in xylene and rehydrated in a graded alcohol series and were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Photographs of myofiber were randomly taken in 5 cross-sections for each bird with microscope (BX51, Olympus, Tokyo, Japan) under 10 x magnification, and the myofiber's area was measured by using Scion Image software (Scion Image for Windows. Version Beta 4.0.2. Scion Co., Frederick, MD).
