    • We will not investigate the whole issue of abortion, which is related to the definition of the child as much as to that of women's rights. The literature is immense in a debate that has been renewed in recent years when, in several countries, legal triumphs of the seventies are at odds with present-day conservative trends. What is interesting is the new type of philosophy of medicine born in the eighties, which gives rise to moral problems that were not even dreamt of by the religious and philosophical thinkers of the past. I need only quote the title of an article by a French doctor, F. Dalfos of the Paris Institut de Puériculture: 'Les droits et les devoirs du foetus humain', Le Monde, 13 October 1993.
