According to IDC, carboxyl particles have COOH groups attached directly to the polymer colloid. Carboxylate particles have COOH groups on polymer strands, which are then grafted onto the polymer colloid. In addition, the density of COOH groups on the carboxylate particles is many times greater than that on the carboxyl.
