Two recent articles by John Kotter discuss several facets of the development of interpersonal influence that are applicable to the topic: “Power, Success and Organizational Effectiveness” in Organizational Dynamics (Winter 1977, pp. 27–40), and “Power, Dependence, and Effective Management” in Harvard Business Review (July/August 1977, pp. 125–136).
