The new diazene complexes 1 and 2 exhibit satisfactory spectroscopic and analytical data (see Supporting Information).

note
-
When a solution of 1 or 2 was warmed to above -40°C under an argon atmosphere the color of the solution slowly changed to green. The nature of the decomposition products was unclear. For this reason, the characterization of these complexes in solution (NMR and electronic absorption spectroscopy) was performed on the reaction mixtures.

I centers in 1 and 2 is evident from the fact that no counterions are found in either of the crystal structures.

note
-
1H NMR spectroscopic data and X-ray crystallographic analysis indicated that triethylamine reacted only as a neutralizing agent.
