Maindrault-Goebel F, Lledo G, Chibaudel B, et al. Final results of OPTIMOX2, a large randomized phase II study of maintenance therapy or chemotherapy-free intervals (CFI) after FOLFOX in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (MRC): A GERCOR study [abstract]. J Clin Oncol, 2007 ASCO Annual Meeting Proceedings 2007; 25:4013. These studies explore the possibility of discontinuing first-line treatment offering patients short periods off treatment thus reducing side effects. First results seem to be conflicting and such strategies should be further investigated.
