    • The determination of the specific surface areas for the adsorbates depends on the values used for their respective cross-sectional areas. In the present work, we have taken data measured on graphite in the solid phase, near monolayer completion refs 27 and 28, to obtain an experimental value for the area per molecule. Even though these values were determined at lower temperatures than our isotherm measurements, we have measured the isotherms at very similar relative temperatures, so that expansion effects which will occur both for Ne and for CF4 up from the quoted values of the specific area will be minimized. Moreover, even by using the more standard values for the cross-sectional areas deduced from the Lennard-Jones a parameters, we still obtain a smaller value for CF4 than for Ne
    • 4 than for Ne.
