A masked prospective study using orthoptist screening of children from a district in England, this study has prompted several letters to the editor at BMJ. This article reports that children with 20/30 vision in the worst eye do not improve significantly with treatment, while confirming that children with vision of less than 20/60 in the worst eye showed a significant response to treatment when identified at preschool vision screening.
