Incidence of stenotic lesions predicted by acute phase changes in coronary arterial diameter during Kawasaki disease
-
May 12 (Epub ahead of print)
-
Tsuda E, Kamiya T, Ono Y, et al,: Incidence of stenotic lesions predicted by acute phase changes in coronary arterial diameter during Kawasaki disease. Pediatr Cardiol 2004 May 12 (Epub ahead of print). These authors demonstrate that the incidence of coronary artery stenosis in patients with aneurysms increases with duration from disease onset. By 15 years after Kawasaki disease, stenotic lesions had developed in 74% of giant aneurysms (≥8 mm) and 58% of medium aneurysms (6-8 mm).

Myocardial blood flow and coronary flow reserve in children with "normal" epicardial coronary arteries after the onset of Kawasaki disease assessed by positron emission tomography

Hauser M, Bengel F, Kuehn A: Myocardial blood flow and coronary flow reserve in children with "normal" epicardial coronary arteries after the onset of Kawasaki disease assessed by positron emission tomography. Pediatr Cardiol 2004, 25:108-112. In children with regressed coronary aneurysms, vasoreactivity of coronary arteries was impaired, suggesting that there may be residual damage of the coronary arteries that may be a risk factor for atherosclerosis in adulthood.
