Circulation 2002, 105:124-129. Use of the impedance threshold device during standard CPR in a pig model of cardiac arrest increased the 24-hour survival rate from 55% to 85%. Only 1 of 11 pigs treated with a sham impedance threshold device had normal neurologic function after 24 hours, versus 12 of 17 pigs treated with the active device.

Circulation 2003, 108:2201-2205. Use of active compression decompression CPR with an impedance threshold device versus standard CPR in a randomized prospective clinical trial resulted in 24-hour survival rates greater than 60% in the device group. The benefit was particularly striking in patients with a witnessed arrest and ventricular fibrillation when 24-hour survival rates were 58% with the device combination and only 23% with standard manual CPR.
