It is straightforward to produce nonmaximally entangled and/or mixed polarization states with this technique. Nonmaximally entangled states may be produced by adjusting the ratio of the optical powers in each of the pump's polarization modes. Mixed states may be produced by allowing the pump pulse to become partially depolarized. Although in this paper we are concerned with frequency-uncorrelated (and thus frequency-unentangled) photon pairs, analogous generalizations for partial entanglement and mixing, in the frequency degrees of freedom are possible, given the appropriate manipulations of the pump pulse.
