Bad metals are defined (Ref.) to be materials with a resistivity, ρ, which increases with increasing temperature (as in a "good metal"), but with a sufficiently large magnitude that, were ρ to be interpreted in terms of quasiparticle transport, it would imply a mean-free path shorter than the Fermi wavelength. As was pointed out in Ref., for parameters characteristic of SmOFeAs, taking ρ= (h/ e2) (kF l) -1 ac =7 mΩ-cm and a spacing between Fe planes of ac =8.7 Å, we would conclude that l∼0.1 λF where kF =h/ λF is the Fermi momentum.

Since resistivity measurements to date are carried out on polycrystalline samples, it may be that the measured resistivities are larger than the intrinsic resistivity; when resistivity data becomes available on single crystals, the classification of ROFeAs as a bad metal may need to be revisited.
