Clearly there are two ways in which the protonated DEA residues could become charge-compensated. Either this core-forming block migrates to the inner shell to form a polyion complex or, alternatively, the "excess" anionic NaStS residues enter the cationic micelle cores. At this stage in our investigations we are not able to distinguish between these two possibilities.
