Simple numerical simulations show that the experimental variation of intensity, during the free flight of the layer, is reproduced by assuming small velocity fluctuations at the takeoff time for the particles located at the free surface. Such velocity fluctuations are very close to the ones estimated in the text [N. Mujica and F. Melo (unpublished)]
