    • This paper provides the first description of a new mode of neurogenesis in the Drosophila central brain which shows striking similarities to neurogenesis in the mammalian brain. It transpires that a subset of neuroblasts amplify their neurogenic capacity by producing neuroblast-like intermediate progenitors.

    • Functionally unequal centrosomes drive spindle orientation in asymmetrically dividing Drosophila neural stem cells
    • •], this paper uses live imaging to show that, in contrast to embryonic neuroblasts, the two centrosomes in larval neuroblasts are unequal. One centrosome (presumably the mother centrosome) always associates with the cortex where Pins is localised in a pins-dependent manner. Hence the spindle orientation is fixed and the mitotic spindle reorientation seen in embryonic neuroblasts does not occur.

    • The mammalian Golgi regulates numb signaling in asymmetric cell division by releasing ACBD3 during mitosis
    • This paper provides evidence for a novel cellular mechanism in mammals that uses fragmentation and reconstitution of the Golgi apparatus to precisely coordinate cell-cycle progression and cell-fate specification during an asymmetric cell division. This mechanism helps to explain why Numb signalling can play two seemingly contradictory roles in specifying neural progenitor fates and also neuronal differentiation.
