A complication arises from the tensor light shift of the metastable states in the dipole trap. Different m states experience slightly different dipole potentials. When the rf Rabi frequency is higher than the differential light shift between adjacent m states, this effect can be neglected, which is the case in our experiment for large enough rf power.
