    • Laurencia obtusa was collected at Isla Grande, Panama. Dry sample (180 g) was extracted with dichloromethane at room temperature. The extract was concentrated to give a dark residue (956.1 mg), which was chromatographed by flash chromatography on silica gel. The fraction eluted with hexane-EtOAc (1:1) (112.2 mg) was further separated by gel filtration to give a fraction (9.3 mg), which was purified by HPLC (Jaigel-sil column 20 × 250 mm, flow 4.5 mL/min, hexane-EtOAc (1:1) to give compound 1 (1.0 mg). From the fraction eluted with hexane-EtOAc (9:1) (233.5 mg) obtusol (13.5 mg) and dechloroelatol (10.8 g) were obtained after gel filtration chromatography (79.3 mg) and further HPLC (Jaigel-sil column 20 × 250 mm, flow 4.5 mL/min, hexane-AcOEt (9:1)
