    • The (E)-isomer of 5/6 was more stable than the (Z)- by between 24 (5b) and 72 (6d) kJ/mol according DFT (B3YLP/6-31G*) calculations. Calculations were carried out using Spartan04, Wavefuntion Inc. In the case of N-tert-butyl-substituted imidates E/Z isomerisation would be expected to be fast at room temperature: D.E.
