Interviews from 2000 included four women and seven men, all white: Sarah and Alicia, the wives of retired miners and current residents of Blair; Nancy, the widow of a miner; Greg, a young, working miner; Jack, a retired miner, all former residents of Blair; Richard, a local government official; Chris and Rob, mining engineers; Susan, Dave, and Mike, environmental activists. Interviews from 2004 included eighteen men and fourteen women, thirty white, two Black: five men who are former miners four white, one Black, one white woman former miner; three white coal-related business men, one of whom is also a former miner; ten white environmental activists, three of whom were men; three government officials, two of whom were white men and one a Black woman; three white men environmental protection agents; and eight other community members, all white: the wife of a coal-related business owner, the wife of a former miner, two men and two women educators, a woman working as a cleaner for a loc
