The discrepancy in the behavior of some low-temperature characteristics of the edges of an open Heisenberg chain obtained in this work and in the bosonization scheme (Ref. 9), probably follows from the approximations used in Ref. 9. Further, we note that, in our opinion, appropriate derivations of the bosonization form for the free energy of an open spin chain with two free edges do not appear in Ref. 9. [Expressions for the low-temperature specific heat follow, naturally, from the ones for the free energy, and, hence, such a derivation is of principal significance.] In particular, in the first work of Ref. 9, Eq. (1) determines the open spin chain with two open edges, while Eqs. (3)-(5) correspond to the semi-infinite cylinder. The same is true for the second work of Ref. 9, Eq. (1) describes an open spin chain with two edges, while Eq. (3) pertains to the semi-infinite wire.
